"($90) Red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of cassis, licorice and flowers enlivened by cooler crushed stone and mineral notes. Sweet, suave and fine-grained; primary, juicy and densely packed. Finishes with substantial but refined tannins and excellent length. Very promising. Hervet noted that Faiveley vinified most of the 2009s with about 25% whole clusters with the objective of "civilizing the tannins."" (IWC)

"Moderate floral notes add breadth to the very fresh and earthy red currant and plum aromas that lead to precise, vibrant and attractively transparent medium-bodied flavors that are complex, serious and persistent. This is a classic Nuits with fine balance." (BH)

Winery Notes:
Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.

Terroir: 1er Cru Les PorĂȘts St-Georges is a small vineyard of just 18 acres just south of the main village of Nuits-St-Georges. Domaine Faiveley farms a parcel of 4+ acres that lies along the vineyards southern border with Les Cailles. Sun exposure is to the east and soils are dark brown with limestone and granite gravel.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the domaine. Following a short maceration the must undergoes primary fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The young wines are aged in 70% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 14 to 16 months.
