"This ostensibly lesser cuvee from Fruitiere, 2009 Muscadet De Severe Et Maine Sur Lie Petit M serves as a delightful introduction to the wiles of Muscadet, not to mention an excellent value. The ripeness of 2009 is evoked in the luscious sorbet-like expression of lemon, lime, and grapefruit, whose scents are mingled with hints of mint and lily-of-the-valley. Hints of crushed stone and bitter citrus pip set off the fruit in a lip-smacking finish. This plastic-stoppered bottling will remain irresistible for at least the remainder of 2010." (WA)

"Limpid straw. Zesty, herb-accented lemon and pear aromas pick up a deeper melon quality with air. Juicy, tightly wound citrus and orchard fruit flavors are braced by tangy minerality. Softer on the finish, which repeats the melon note and leaves a touch of singed orange behind. (Jon-David Headrick Selections, Asheville, NC)" (IWC)

Winery Notes:
Jean Douillard, the founder of the estate, is obsessed with making sure that he extracts as much of this minerality from the soil as he can. As such, he uses only natural vine treatments, leaving a final grain that is pure and ready for the crush. There is an aggressive de-leafing and a green harvest that is still a rarity in the region. At harvest, Jean and his team go over every grain as it is destemmed, culling any under-ripe grapes and sending the rest on to press, ferment, and then sit quietly on their fi ne lees all through the cold Nantais winter.

100% Melon de Bourgogne from 25-50 year old vines planted on mica and schist. Heavy triage before press and slow, controlled fermentation. Aged in stainless steel tanks for 7-9 months.
