"Coffee, licorice, kirsch and rhubarb flavors mingle in this lively, rustic red. This has juicy acidity and enough structure for food. Monastrell. Drink now through 2013. 2,000 cases imported." (WS)

"The 2009 Tarima Hill reveals sumptuous aromas of camphor, sweet, smoky oak, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, and crushed rocks. Deep and full-bodied with silky tannins and a long finish, this beauty was aged in 100% French oak for 20 months.

Bodega Volver, a joint project between Rafael Canizares and Jorge Ordonez, produces wines from three appellations, La Mancha, Alicante and Jumilla. Readers will need to take note of the nearly identical cuvees, some of which are made from organic grapes and others from non-organic grapes. That information is clearly marked on the labels. Slightly more expensive are the 2010 and 2009 Tarima Hill. These cuvees come from the winery’s oldest vines (20 acres of ungrafted vines that were planted in 1935) planted on the highest elevations." (WA)

"(100% monastrell): Vivid ruby. Sexy black raspberry and oak spices on the nose, with notes of fresh rose and anise adding complexity. Sweet, sappy and expansive, offering lively dark berry preserve flavors and a velour-like texture. Graceful and balanced but also packs a punch. Finishes smooth, spicy and quite long. " (IWC)

Winery Notes:
The project is a joint venture of Jorge Ordonez and the Gil family located in Jumilla Spain. The grapes are 100% Monastrell with the age of the vines 25- 35 years old. The wine is 100% stainless steel fermented with some stirring of the lees to attain the maximum out of this variety. The soils are very chalky and are at an elevation of some 2,100 feet above sea level. The winery owns some (80 hectares) 192 acres of vineyards, some are under organic practices and are currently in the process of being certified organic.
