Winery Notes:
Today, with the chalky soils in the area, Becker produces some of Germany’s finest Pinot Noir. In fact, for the past five years, the Reserve Pinot Noir (from the upper section of the St. Paul vineyard) has been awarded Germany’s top Pinot Noir in the German Wine Guide Gault Millau. Since Fritz Jr. has joined the estate, the white wines, especially the Riesling and Pinot Blanc, have seen signifi cant improvements in quality. Th eestate comprises 43 acres and produces 9,000 cases a year. It is planted 40% to Pinot Noir, 11% to Pinot Gris, 9% to Pinot Blanc, 22% to Riesling and 18% to other varietals such as Gewürztraminer and Silvaner. Becker is a member of the V.D.P.

Tasting Note:
Smokey terrior notes mix with cherry and forest fl oor in the nose. This basic Pinot Noir was picked at a robust 95 Ochsle. On the palate there are notes of dried cranberry, pomegranate, and cherry. Th is selection is very, very impressive for a basic Pinot Noir, and shows how far Pinot Noir production has come in Germany in the past decade.

Food Affinity:
Delicious on its own, but also compliments heavier seafood, poultry and fi ne cuts of beef and game.
