"A perennial Best Buy in these pages, the 2008 Pillar Box Red does not disappoint. A blend of 66% Shiraz, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 9% Merlot, it is purple-colored with an enticing nose of cherry blossom, cinnamon, blueberry, and licorice. Ripe and rich for its humble price, it has plenty of savory fruit, good balance, and a seamless, fruit-filled finish. " (WA)

"($12; 66% shiraz, 25% cabernet sauvignon and 9% merlot) Glass-staining ruby. Ripe blueberry and boysenberry aromas, with a smoky undertone. Round, jammy black and blue fruit flavors stay just this side of candied and show no rough edges. A subtle note of bitter chocolate adds grip. This rich wine lacks complexity but delivers plenty of supple fruit." (IWC)

Winery Notes:
The 2008 Pillar Box Red has a dark colour and a vibrant purple hue, with aromas of fresh blueberry fruit, liquorice, dried mint and cinnamon oak undertones. The palate is dense and juicy, with flavours of fresh blackcurrant and cherry combined with aniseed, dried thyme and mocha oak characters. The wine is rich and full bodied, well balanced and seamless with soft, persistent tannins.

The Pillar Box Red is named after the once- ubiquitous red postal boxes that used to dot the Australian landscape. The majority of the fruit for this wine is sourced from the Estate's Padthaway vineyards, with a small amount coming from local growers. The vines are in various soil types, including red loam, black loam and deep sand over limestone. The wine is matured using 85 percent French and 15 percent American oak for three to four months.
