"Chewy with tannin, but bursting with fresh currant and plum, sneaking in hints of mint and black tea as the finish lingers. A graceful wine that has miles to go. Best from 2013 through 2018. From Washington." (WS)

"The 2008 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon contains 14% Merlot in its blend and was subject to the identical elevage as the 2007. Pain grille, mineral, spice box, incense, violets and assorted black fruits lead to a wine with a similar issue as its older sibling, a moderate austerity on the palate. It, too, has some aging potential so the wine could fill out with additional bottle age, but that is a bit of a gamble.

Columbia Crest, part of the Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, is Washington's largest winery. It produces mammoth amounts of wine (2,000,000+ cases) at a remarkably high level of quality. A visit to the cellars reveals brilliant organization, high morale, and a sense of personal involvement by the staff that undoubtedly adds value to the finished wine." (WA)

"Medium red-ruby. Youthfully stunted aromas of dark fruits, mocha, cola, menthol and nutty oak. Then surprisingly supple following the nose, showing good density and depth to the flavors of currant, black cherry and menthol complicated by chocolatey oak. Little in the way of easy sweetness here. Finishes with serious, dusty, building, oak-influenced tannins: will they be absorbed?" IWC)

"We expect that there will be those who like the comparatively lean and withdrawn style of this wine a little better than we do, but we would point to its tautness and the slight green streak that hides just behind its ripeness as limiting factors. They are what we notice first, and they are the things that will hold the wine back even with age. Reviewed: December 2011" (CG)

Winery Notes:
“Crafted in a classic Bordeaux style and sourced from low-yielding vineyards within the best appellations of the Columbia Valley. This wine delivers an enticing bouquet of spice, anise and rose petals. On the palate a perfect balance of cherry, berry and coco flavors lead to a powerful and complex finish.”
