"A powerful red, combined with the openness and charm of the vintage. Plum, black cherry, herb and tobacco flavors get support from the structure, with a long finish. Best from 2014 through 2023. 3,000 cases imported. " (WS)

"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Castelgiocondo is a rich, explosive wine endowed with generous fruit and an extroverted personality to match. Black cherries, flowers, licorice and spices are woven together nicely in this deep, layered Brunello. The 2007 will appeal most to readers who appreciate the lush, fruit-driven side of Brunello. This is very well done but falls just a bit short of being viscerally thrilling. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025." (WA)

"Very dark, bright red. Currant, black cherry, menthol and licorice on the nose, along with a note of oak char. Chewy dark fruit, licorice and chocolate flavors come across as a bit medicinal and clenched today, with some acidity yet to be absorbed. Offers good density but seems a bit overextracted. Finishes with an herbal element and building dusty tannins. I don't find much sangiovese perfume here." (IWC)

"From Tuscany’s celebrated Frescobaldi wine family, Brunello Castelgiocondo opens with dark, inky concentration and bold aromas of pressed rose, black cherry, exotic spice, leather and unsweetened chocolate. It is beautifully put together, with ample intensity, balance, complexity and silkiness on the finish. — M.L. (5/1/2012) " (WE)

"Aromas of violets, dark berries and raspberries, follow through to a full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a long finish. A wine with lovely texture. Chewy. Citrusy undertone. Best in 2015." (JS)

Winery Notes
Castel Giocondo Brunello di Montalcino presents a clear ruby red with garnet highlights. Pronounced notes of blackberry elegantly accompanied by floral notes such as violet. The nose is complex and well-blended: spicy notes of black pepper and clove, tobacco and leather, and “jus de viande” reflect well the evolution of the wine. Resonating tannin textures, mellow structure with a long and elegant finish.

Beef stews, braised meats and aged chesses.
