"A pungent aroma of red slate is followed by ripe peach, orange and passion fruit flavors in this rich, concentrated white, which is succulent and balanced by a bright structure. Excellent length. Drink now through 2018. 500 cases imported." (WS)

"Gunderloch’s 2007 Nackenheimer Rotenberg Spatlese smells gloriously of orange blossom, fennel pollen, sage, black tea, and tangerine. To this cast is added on the palate a honey and malt-like richness and orange liqueur projection of superbly-ripe fruit, yet with elegance, lift, and sheer juiciness that make the next sip downright irresistible, even if the memory of the last seemingly won’t die away. I would plan on savoring this beauty over the next 12-15 years.

The best Riesling sites at Gunderloch weren’t picked before late October, and nobly sweet wines were harvested into February! The berries were tiny and largely healthy, says Agnes Hasselbach, and it stayed cold, dry, windy, and sunny, so they slowly dried out." (WA)

"($50) Ripe peach, passion fruit and lemon drop on the nose. Rich, juicy papaya fruit is clean and refreshing. In spite of its residual sugar, this spatlese remains bright and lively on the spicy finish." (IWC)

Winery Notes:
In 1890 Carl Gunderloch founded the estate by investing into the best vineyard sites of the “Rote Hang” area (“red slope area”) in the Rheinhessen appellation. Over the past decade, the 5th generation, Fritz and Agnes Hasselbach, have elevated the estate to world class earning 3 times a perfect 100 point score for the TBA dessert wines of 1992, 1996 and 2001.

Tasting Note:
Intriguing spice and mineral aromas and flavors highlight the apricot, passion fruit and pineapple core notes. It's concentrated, yet light and lively, with a long, resonant, mineral-tinged finish. Drink now through 2025.

Food Affinity:
Rich bodied Asian food, contemporary American dishes with reduction or fruit containing sauces. It can also be enjoyed with spicy cheeses or by itself.
