"Dark in color, with intense, very ripe aromas of raisin, tar and licorice. Full-bodied, with loads of ripe tannins, wonderful dried fruit character and a long, superfruity finish. A lovely second wine from Palmer. Best after 2014. –JS " (WS)

"The medium to dark ruby 2005 Alter Ego is a sexy, lush, up-front style of 2005, with loads of cedar wood, a fragrant and perfumed personality, and silky tannin. It is moderately endowed, but lusciously suave and seductive. Close to being an outstanding second wine, it will drink well for another 7-10 years." (WA)

"Bright, deep ruby-red. Sweet, enticing aromas of redcurrant, plum, coffee and meat. This offers lovely sweetness in the mouth, with a terrific core of fruit and a captivating sugar/acid balance. Unusually dense for this second wine. Finishes long and firmly tannic, with plenty of lingering flavor. The best yet for this label." (VM)

"Juicy and soft, with red fruits and supple tannins. It is generous, with its jelly and berry fruits and fresh acidity. Not for aging." (WE)

"Spicy black and red plums, licorice, earth, tobacco and truffle scents pair well with the medium bodied, refined, soft, elegant silky textures. This is a Margaux wine of finesse, ending with sweet, ripe, red and black, spicy fruits. This is drinking well today and should remain at this level and improve over the next decade." (JL)
