OBSCENE DEAL FOR LE MESNIL-SUR-OGER JUICE, YOU AIN'T GOING TO FIND THIS IN THE BOX, CLUB, CHAIN STORES!!

"Lip-smacking, with a chalky texture and vibrant acidity, this firm blanc de blancs offers tightly knit notes of grainy pear, persimmon, slivered almond, orchard blossom, honey and golden raisin. A hint of smoky minerality keeps singing on the lasting finish. Drink now through 2020.–AN " (WS)

"The Guy Charlemagne NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Reserve LRGC11 is dominated by lusciously juicy fresh apple, lime and apricot, nicely reinforced by residual sugar that shows as faint sweetness. Bitterness of apple and lime pips and tart apple skin help engender a highly stimulating if slightly rustic finish. I would plan on drinking this over the coming year.

Philippe (son of Guy) Charlemagne farms 37 acres, principally in Le Mesnil and Oger, but with a substantial chunk in the Sezanne and a bit elsewhere in the Cote des Blancs. Most of the wines are raised in tank and most undergo malo-lactic conversion. I tasted only two of their cuvees this year, and only one from the Cote des Blancs." (WA)

"(4 g/l dosage; LRGC11): Pale yellow-gold. Ginger-accented citrus and orchard fruits on the nose, with a subtle floral note coming up slowly. Round and fleshy on the palate, offering warm orchard and pit fruit flavors that are given spine by a smoky mineral element. Finishes broad and smooth, with good cling and an echo of white peach." Winery Notes:
Brut Reserve Grand Cru: This brut cuvée comes from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, made solely with Chardonnay that is 100% Grand Cru. The blend is 2011 (65%) and 2010 and 2009 (35%). The wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation, then rested en tirage for 36 months. Finesse plays a lead role here, finished with a light dosage of 8 grams per litre. It possesses an elegance and vivacity that will allow for myriad pairings but is particularly appreciated as an aperitif. The Wine Advocate : “The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Reserve is a gorgeous wine laced with minerals, graphite, crushed rocks and bright, citrus fruit. A graceful, elegant wine, the Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Reserve floats on the palate in a focused, beautifully delineated style. The finish is exceptionally elegant and refined. Readers looking for a textbook Blanc de Blancs from Mesnil at an affordable price need look no further.” The Wine Spectator : “Fresh and focused, with a cornucopia of flavors—ripe fruit (mango, tangy quince and tangerine) are joined by a minerally sublayer of smoke, stone and spice. This shows firm structure and intensity, but the overall juiciness of the acidity makes this very appealing right now.
