"The grapes for the 2015 Críos Malbec are sourced exclusively in the Valle de Uco, from Los Chacayes, Vista Flores, Los Árboles and Gualtallary Sur to be precise. This cold and wet vintage helped achieve the drinkability and freshness they aim for in this wine. It fermented in stainless steel and part of the wine matured in well-seasoned, neutral French oak barrels for nine months. There are some toasty notes and a core of perfectly ripe berries. The palate is fresh and balanced, quite tasty. A Críos with less makeup. 380,000 bottles produced.

Nowadays Susana Balbo's winery, which at one point was called Dominio del Plata, uses 75% of grapes from the Valle de Uco in Mendoza, a percentage that has increased dramatically in the last few years.

There are different lines of wines--Críos, BenMarco, Susana Balbo and Nosotros. They have refined their grape suppliers and the Críos range has been produced again, as it was in the past, with only a percentage of wine aged in used barrels rather than with oak staves. I saw an improvement toward more freshness and better definition of the wines. The whites really surprised me this year." (WA)

"A juicy and fruity red with plum, berry and savory character. Medium body, fresh finish. Well done for a 2015. Drink now." (JS)

Winery Notes:
TASTING NOTES:
Beautiful reddish-purple color. The aromas are a mix of freshly crushed black cherries and subtle coffee and vanilla notes, just enough to frame the exuberant fruit. On the palate, the flavors of cherries and spice are obvious, and the jammy fruit quality just keeps coming on, with hints of spice and sandalwood lurking in the background.

PAIRING:
This wine can be consumed at almost any occasion, by itself or with a large range of food, including roasted beef and barbecues.
