"The 2014 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir, from three parcels in the Vista Hills vineyard close to Domaine Serene, includes 20% whole bunch fruit and was matured in one-third new French oak. It offers quite a powerful bouquet with Morello cherries and a touch of strawberry shortcake - ripe and somehow, playful. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a sumptuous opening, plush for the vintage, the whole bunch neatly integrated and with a spicy, quite edgy finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a very well-crafted Pinot Noir that should give 12-15 years of drinking pleasure.
I tasted the wines of Soter Vineyards with Tony Soter at their recently refurbished North Valley Vineyards base. There is a strict selection here and he told me that he did not bottle AVA-specific Pinots in 2013. "I was worried that 2014 was too sunny and that the wines were maybe a little Californian, but they have since developed structure in bottle. The harvest spread of three weeks, mostly in the third week of September." There is clearly a great deal of quality control here at Soter Vineyard and that is evidenced by the four AVA offerings in 2014, plus the outstanding Mineral Springs Ranch White label." (WA)

Supple and broad in the mouth, offering juicy dark fruit, cola and floral pastille flavors given lift and spine by zesty acidity. Bright, red/blue color in the glass. An engaging noes of red currants, bramble, sandalwood and a hint of licorice lead the way. Brisk on the palate, and very bright with acid and nerve. Simliar fruits from the nose emerge on the palate, conjoined with notes of roasted coffee, vanilla and white pepper. This round, opulent wine finishes with a little inron/beefboullion mineral nuance, and a juicy cherry profile. Soft tannins, clean and bright all the way through.
