89% Cabernet Sauvignon 8% Petit Verdot 2% Malbec 1% Merlot
"Full ruby-red. Very dark scents of blackberry, cassis, bitter chocolate and black licorice. At once sweet, pliant and concentrated; a very ripe, deep, densely packed Cabernet given shape by harmonious acidity. Cassis and dark chocolate flavors display a youthfully medicinal aspect, but there's also terrific sweetness lurking. Really spreads out horizontally to saturate the palate, finishing with major ripe, building, tongue-coating tannins and superb length. Perhaps a bit less refined than the 2014 but this is still a baby. This serious, very concentrated wine should evolve slowly and gracefully and may ultimately merit an even higher rating." (VM)
For former NFL Quarterback Drew Bledsoe, owning a winery has been a longtime aspiration that would allow him to combine his passion for fine wine and love of the Walla Walla Valley. Drew returned to his hometown in 2007 to plant his estate vineyard, McQueen, in SeVein Vineyards of Distinction. The following year, Drew launched Doubleback, an estate-focused winery with the goal to produce ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon from the Walla Walla Valley. To make this dream a reality, Drew collaborated with his childhood friend Chris Figgins of Figgins Family Wine Estates. Chris consulted on all winemaking and vineyard practices while training current Winemaker, Josh McDaniels, who assumed the role in 2015.
Since the first release, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, Doubleback has received numerous accolades including a spot on the Wine Spectators Top 100 List. The vision for Doubleback remains to be a premium wine experience completely focused on quality. To further assist the production of high-quality Walla Walla Valley fruit for Doubleback, Drew acquired a second estate vineyard in 2011. Drew and Maura Bledsoe are committed to only using the best viticulture and winemaking practices to ensure that Doubleback will be one of the best bottles of wine you will drink.
I absolutely love the 2014 Doubleback. A beautifully dark and saturated color that leads in to aromatics of raspberry, blackberry cobbler and cocoa powder. Digging deeper reveals sagebrush, menthol and rosemary that evolves and opens with grace over time — a completely entrancing wine. A large mouthfeel of dark fruit, dark chocolate and enticing length with perfect acidity for balance. Incredibly rich and lush, this wine is complex, ridiculously layered, and will age for years to come. Being almost entirely from McQueen Vineyard, the 2014 is a great testament to the strength of this site. Fractured basalt driven soils, wind that thickens the skins and develops tannin, and a higher elevation that retains the acidity and allows for more hang time — I couldn’t be more proud of this wine.
