"A wine offering notes of grilled steak, steak tartare, beef blood, blueberries and blackberries galore is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder. Everything here emerges from the Jackson-owned Veeder Peak Vineyard. Chris Carpenter agrees that this has to be one of the greatest vintages he’s ever had the pleasure to work with – and he has some serious experience under his belt. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine is utterly profound, and while the scoring system ends at 100, if I had to pick a single wine that may have been my favorite of all the tastings I did in Napa, this could have been my pick. Full-bodied, rich, with incredible integration of its component parts of acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood, the wine is lavishly built, has compelling purity, richness and density, and a finish, again, that rivals that of the Howell Mountain, being close to one minute in length. This wine will be certainly approachable young, but last 30-40+ years." (WA)

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder is the most finessed of the Lokoya Cabernets. Powerful, incisive tannins provide the backdrop as this regal, towering Cabernet shows off its distinctive personality. Pine, menthol, wild flowers, sweet red berries, pomegranate and blood orange are laced together in a vivid, crystalline Cabernet with a very bright future. The 2013 gets better and better with time in the glass. Even today, though, it is simply magnificent. " (VM)

Winery Notes:
Appellation and Vineyard:
Located on the western ridges of the Mayacamas Range and at the northern end of the Mount Veeder appellation, Veeder Peak Vineyard sits at a lofty elevation of 1,800 feet. Since 1995, Lokoya has fashioned a powerful Cabernet Sauvignon from a small block on our estate vineyard. Though morning sun tempers the climate on Mount Veeder, shallow soil profiles combined with a low concentration of minerals and nutrients challenge the vitality of the Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Struggling in this mountainous volcanic terrain forces the vines to seek out nutrients and thus produce berries with intensely concentrated fruit.

Winemaker Comments:
“Formula 1 racing in Monte Carlo is defined by automobiles that speak to power, performance and complexity. They are geared to optimize the road throughout any given curve or straightaway. Our Mt. Veeder Lokoya optimizes all that mountain cabernet has to offer with the thunderous blue fruit of Veeder Peak and a visceral complexity of minerality, spice and texture to move your palate at 250 mph no matter the course.” -Christopher Carpenter, Winemaker
