NEW RELEASE, VERY HIGH QUALITY!
"The 2013 Pinot Noir Lands Edge Vineyard comes from a site situated less than five miles from the Pacific Ocean. Its deep ruby/plum color is followed by notes of charcoal, spring flowers, red and blackcurrants and cherries. Savory, ripe, elegant, and fresh, it can be drunk over the next 5-7 years.
Part of the Jackson Family empire, Hartford Court is run with incredible enthusiasm and competence by Don Hartford and his winemaker, Jeff Stewart. One of the bright shining stars in California winedom, their Chardonnays are clearly Burgundian, but with sensational purity and ripeness. The Pinot Noirs are among the finest of Northern California, and Hartford Court’s Zinfandels rank alongside such top Zinfandel producers as Turley, Limerick Lane and Carlisle. I tasted six impressive 2013 Chardonnays, which are generally aged for 15 months in 100% French oak, with a range of 33% to 44% new. Bottling is done without fining or filtration. I tasted seven bottled Pinot Noirs from the sensational 2012 vintage. All of them are aged in 100% French oak, with the percentage of new oak ranging from a low of 25% to a high of 40%. Most of these wines spend 16 months in barrel prior to being bottled. In addition to their enviable portfolio of Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, Hartford Court is one of the top Zinfandel specialists in California. The five 2013 Zinfandels I tasted were all bottled early to preserve their fruit and character." (WA)
"The 2013 Pinot Noir Land's Edge Vineyards is soft, open and expressive, all of which suggest it is best enjoyed over the next few years. Dark red cherry, plum, spice and a hint of new oak meld together on the supple finish. The Land's Edge is a blend of fruit from Far Coast and Seascape, and is a great introduction to the house style." (VM)
"7. 2013 Hartford Court, “Land’s Edge Vineyards,” Sonoma
Coast ($50) – Medium purplish ruby; attractive, fragrant,
spicy, black cherry and red berry fruit aroma with hints of
forest floor and mocha; medium-full body; rich, textured,
nicely balanced, red fruit flavors with a touch of cola, and
showing some elegance and complexity as it developed with
airing in the glass; medium to medium-full tannin; lingering
aftertaste. Very highly recommended. 14.5% alcohol; 2,295
cases; 100% PN; released January 2015. (Group Score: 16.3,
0/1/0; My Score: 17 [91/100], seventh place)" (CGV)
Land’s Edge Pinot Noir is sourced predominately from our estate’s Far Coast Vineyard, located in the Sonoma Coastal Mountain Range – north of the Russian River, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Because there is only one cascading ridge between the ocean and the vineyard, Far Coast vineyard and other estate owned vineyards located at ‘Land’s Edge’, such as Seascape vineyard, are so cold that miniscule crops of Pinot Noir are often picked here as late as November. This cool and often foggy, coastal climate preserves natural acidity in the grapes and helps delineate the purity of fruit flavors and expression of the unique, yet firm coastal terroir in this wine. Balanced acidity, layers of complexity and firm tannins will allow for long and graceful aging of Land’s Edge Vineyards Pinot Noir.
Complex aromas of black cherries and black raspberries are balanced with crushed quartz and dried rose petal nuances. The layered flavors of perfectly ripe, dark berries and dried flowers transition to an elegant and lingering finish of coffee and minerals.
