TERRIFIC VALUE IN THIS 2013 BOURGOGNE CHARD. FOR $18.95 2013 BOURGOGNE CHARDONNAY, “CHARMES”, Vinified THIBAULT-LIGER (on Nuits St. Georges)

First of all don’t confuse this White Burgundy with one named Meursault CHARMES which comes from a single world famous Premier Cru vineyard in Meursault. While the one I’m here reviewing lists the name of this wine, near the bottom of the front label as BOURGOGNE LES CHARMES, which does not represent a vineyard but is simply a “brand name,” used by the well known firm of Thibault Ligier that they give to their quality lower price white Burgundy blend. The 2013 Thibault Liger “Les Charmes” Chardonnay is a remarkable value at $18.95 a bottle (I’ve seen it advertised elsewhere for nearly $30.

The wine is a completely natural and a classic example of Chardonnay, most of it coming from vineyards in the Cote Chalonnaise and the premier sections of the Macon and even a bit from the Cote d’Beaune. The wine is aged in stainless steel where it goes through malolactic fermentation, which adds to its wonderful aromas and flavors, of honeysuckle, ripe apple blossoms, white peaches and luscious pineapples accompanied by a velvety satin purity with out even a hint of oaky character. Now at its height and it should keep well for at least another couple of years.

Winery Notes:
Thibault Liger-Belair Bourgogne Blanc is very fresh fruit on the nose. On the palate, soft and silky-textured fruit of peach and pear nectar with hints of anise and Mirabelle plum fruit. Lush on the finish.
