2007 Southern Rhones.....Vintage of a Lifetime!...LAST CALL!!

The 2007 So. Rhone vintage was just re-reviewed at the end of February 2017 and the accolades were even stronger than upon the first bottled reviews back in 2009.

In 2008 and 2009 Parker said "It is the vintage of my lifetime for this region, and I don't say that lightly. These 2007s will also be very long-lived given their extraordinary balance. This is a truly historic and profoundly great vintage"

And now in 2017 Parker said "In my 39 years of tasting, 3 vintages stand out for their greatness and singularity...1982 Bordeaux, 1990 Barolo/Barbaresco, and 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape. If there has been any revelation, it is....how steady and reassuringly the greatest 2007 Chateauneufs have evolved. So, even if some wines are still young adolescents, they provide profound drinking."

And Jeb Dunnuck, now doing the official So. Rhone reviews said "...in most head to head tastings between the 2007s and 2010s, I almost always prefer the 2007s. They have lived up to the hype and are some of the most incredible wines in the wine world today."

"The beautiful 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (from 80- to 100-year-old vines) is a blend of 60% Grenache and the rest equal parts Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, and Counoise aged in concrete tanks and old wood foudres. An effusively fruity, exuberant effort, it reveals plenty of juicy black currants and black cherries intermixed with lavender, licorice, incense, and forest floor. Full-bodied, dense, and seductive with silky tannins and a long, lush, opulent finish, it is impossible to resist at present, and should continue to evolve for 10-12+ years. Proprietor Michel Arnaud consistently produces seductive Chateauneuf du Papes from his nearly 40-acres of vines located in one of the appellation’s finest sectors, Cabrieres." (WA)

"Vivid ruby. Strawberry, black raspberry, flowers and spices on the nose, with a suave mineral undertone. Graceful and focused, offering pinot noir-like clarity to its sweet red and dark berry flavors and showing no rough edges. The mineral note repeats on the finish and adds an energetic quality. This is delicious right now. North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley CA ; Village Wines, New York NY" (VM)
