"Shows wonderful aromas of crushed blackberry and blueberry, with hints of mint. Full-bodied, with soft, round tannins and a long, delicious aftertaste. Generous and beautiful. Best after 2012. 2,100 cases made." (WS)
"The famous Côtes de Castillon from the Perse family, this wine is normally the reference point for just how terrific wines from this satellite appellation of St.-Emilion can be. The 2005 offers an impressive saturated purple color, stunning concentration, richness, a full-bodied mouthfeel, a beautiful, majestic texture, chalky minerality, and loads of floral notes intermixed with blackberry, cassis and spice. This is a sensational, over-achieving, fabulous Côtes de Castillon to drink over the next two decades." (WA)
"($40-$60) Bright, full ruby-red. Very ripe, wild aromas of black raspberry, truffle, game and beefsteak tomato. Lush, fat, sweet and impressively rich, with explosive dark fruit, mocha, leather and meat flavors. In a distinctly full-blown style, but with considerable soil character. Today the tannins are virtually invisible and the finish shows terrific aromatic persistence, but I would not be at all surprised if this packed 2005 shuts down in the bottle." (VM)
"Licorice, cocoa, black raspberry, espresso bean and earthy notes open to a round, supple, wine that is already fun to drink. However, it will probably be better after another year or two of bottle age where it should give pleasure for another 5 - 10 years.
92 points - Tasted Sep 5, 2012" (JL)
